As the National Work Safety Month is underway, the converter splash‑detection system—jointly developed by the Intelligent Information Department of Jingye Group and the Second Steelmaking Division—has been successfully commissioned on No. 2 and No. 3 converters at the Second Steelmaking Plant, with all technical performance indicators meeting the required standards. Leveraging intelligent technologies, the system strengthens the safety safeguards and adds value to this year’s Work Safety Month.

As a flagship smart safety‑monitoring project jointly developed by both parties, it has delivered remarkable results. Leveraging video footage from the converter mouth as the primary data source, the system employs segmentation models and optical‑flow analysis, achieving an expected splash‑detection accuracy of over 95%. Since going live one month ago, the on‑site detection rate for splash events has remained consistently above 98%, accurately identifying a wide range of splash‑related risks and eliminating false negatives. The system supports flexible configuration of splash‑parameter thresholds and integrates seamlessly with the data‑acquisition platform; its digital display provides real‑time visualization of splash conditions for each heat, enabling operators to respond swiftly and take precise corrective actions. Moreover, the system is designed for iterative model refinement, laying a robust technical foundation for future upgrades while significantly reducing manual monitoring costs and alleviating operator workload. This solution effectively addresses the longstanding challenges of traditional manual monitoring—namely, latency, high error rates, and heavy labor intensity.

Going forward, the two departments will steadily expand the scope of project implementation, achieving full coverage of all converters in the Second Steelmaking Plant and strengthening the foundation of safety through intelligent technologies.
