HRB400 rebar was formerly known as Grade 3 rebar, a type of hot-rolled ribbed steel bar. In the construction industry, Grade 3 rebar is an outdated term. Major manufacturers in China are mainly located in North China and Northeast China. North China includes Shougang, Tanggang, Xuangang, Chenggang, Shanxi Zhongyang Steel Plant, Baoding Puer Steel, etc., while Northeast China includes Xilin, Beitai, Fuyang, etc. These two regions account for more than 50% of the total rebar output. The difference between rebar and round steel bar is that the surface has longitudinal and transverse ribs, usually with two longitudinal ribs and transverse ribs evenly distributed along the length. Rebar is a type of small-section steel, mainly used for the skeleton of reinforced concrete building components. It requires certain mechanical strength, bending deformation performance, and welding performance. The raw material billet for producing rebar is carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel treated by calm melting, and the finished rebar is hot-rolled, normalized, or hot-rolled for delivery.

The main function of a steel cage is similar to that of the longitudinal reinforcement in a column; it primarily resists tensile forces. Concrete has high compressive strength but very low tensile strength.
